Rushmoor Community Mediation Service (RCMS) is run by volunteers to assist residents in finding resolutions to their disputes. It is a registered charity (No 1076172), funded by donations from stakeholders including the council, housing associations and others, who often refer cases to us.

Mediators do not resolve disputes but empower residents to resolve the dispute themselves. RCMS is independent, impartial and free to parties in dispute.

SCMS was established in 1998 to attempt to resolve resident disputes without the expense and trauma of going to court. Cases are referred by a variety of organisations including housing associations, police and other agencies. Some cases are referred directly by residents in dispute, called self-referrals.

The primary geographical area of operation includes the towns of Aldershot, Farnborough and Camberley. The service area of operation includes disputes between neighbours, but has recently involved some domestic dispute resolutions.

The service provides mediation, shuttle mediation and meeting parties in dispute. The service depends on the good will of each of the parties  in dispute. If RCMS is involved early enough, the service can help prevent many disputes escalating in seriousness.

All mediators must complete a recognised training course paid for by the service, and receive on-going in house training. The mediators are given cases by a coordinator and work in pairs, reporting back the progress and conclusion of their case.
